He appointed a force of infantry and cavalry at the mouth of the canals in question to watch over and guard them because of the overflow of water which was great in year 8 at (15) the canals in question, which provided water for an extensive area and were (therefore) extremely deep.
Übersetzung (Kaplony-Heckel 1983):
Er bestellte Scharen von Fußsoldaten (und) Reitern zur Bewachung und zur Sicherung an die genannten Kanäle; denn im Jahre 8 waren die Überschwemmungen des Nils höher 15 als ebendiese Kanäle und brachten Wasser auf viel sehr tief gelegenen Boden.

and when the Nile made a great rise in the eighth year, being wont to flood the (25) plains, he checked it by damming at many points the outlets of the channels, expending on it no small sum of money and setting cavalry and infantry to guard (26) them.
